Candlemas is a very old holiday with a Christian-Pagan history. Also known as the festival of the Purification of the Virgin and is the end/culmination of the forty day period after Mary gave birth baby on December 25. It's called Candlemas because this was the day that all the Church's candles for the year were blessed.
Candlemas is the church “adaptation” of a pagan goddess holiday called Imbolc where people light candles to banish dark spooks. It is a Gaelic traditional festival marking the beginning of spring. It is held halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. The word Imbolc, variously spelled Imbolg, Oimelc and Imelg, means “ewe-milk” because this is the time lambs were born in old England, Ireland and most of Europe thus bringing back the flow of ewe’s milk.
And of course, there's a flower for Candlemass.
For many people, the cold clear days of winter bring more than a rosy glow to the cheeks. They bring the opportunity to cozy up in a favorite sweater, donning those new socks and settling in front of a toasty fireplace. Even if you don’t have a skin condition like eczema, your skin needs a little more TLC during the winter months.
Here are six simple solutions to add humidity to your home and moisture to your skin.
A BREATH OF SPRING
I am so pleased with the Lemon and Lavender Soap that I recently purchased from Island Thyme Soap Company. It has a fresh hint of lavender and the crisp smell of lemon. It is a very pleasing mix of scents. The lather of the soap is very creamy on my skin. It left me feeling fresh and clean. So, a win win for me.

My wife was taking a shower when I got home from work. As I started to walk toward the bedroom I was surrounded by lavender/patchouli. The Lavender/patchouli was aromatic and pleasant. I would definitely recommend this soap. The bar is large and last approximately a month! Did I mention it is also beautifully designed. By far the best soap on the market!!

SO GLAD I TRIED IT!!!
I really wanted to try a soap with clay. I'm not usually a huge fan of patchouli because I think it can be overwhelming but that's not the case at all with this soap. The fragrances are blended perfectly. The patchouli is subtle and it lingers. It makes a a very smooth, almost cream-like lather. This soap is just spectacular. Makes the bathroom smell incredible all day after using it.
