Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a storefront where I can browse?

We are an online shop without a physical storefront. Island Cove Beads and Gallery in Indian Rocks Beach carries a selection of our soap and candles and partners with us to host Candle Pouring Parties.

How is your soap different from other handmade soap?

A true soap is only as good as its ingredients. Each artisan soap maker spends countless hours of testing tens of ingredient combinations before they are satisfied with the properties of their own unique recipe. We are very proud of ours and our loyal customers who come back again and again tell us we should be.

What's special about your recipe?

The eight ingredients in Island Thyme Soap Company's base recipe; coconut milk, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, organic and sustainably sourced palm and palm kernel oil and mango butter. We selected these food-grade oils and butters to produce the best combination for the desired luxury soap attributes. We also wanted to formulate a long lasting bar that would create a generous creamy lather, with big bubbles for gentle cleansing. And then there's the coconut milk!

Why coconut milk?

Some soap makers use distilled or purified water for the hydrolysis, a chemical reaction in which water is used to break down the bonds of a particular substance. Think about how oil and water don't mix. Hydrolysis makes it possible. Some use goat milk, we use coconut milk! We chose to use coconut milk for the hydrolysis process because it contains a good concentration of lauric acid, a medium chain fatty acid that's an extremely gentle natural surfactant; foaming agent. When saponified during the soap making process, coconut milk creates a natural foam attribute for the lather! Coconut milk is also high in sugar, and sugar is good for making bubbles! It's a marriage made in soap making heaven!

Where do you source your ingredients and raw products from?

We source all of our raw products from trusted suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, quality, cruelty-free and fair trade practices. Our candle fragrances are US based small businesses who share our values and forumated specifically for candles, by candle makers!

How long does a bar of soap last?

To ensure the longevity of your coconut milk soap, store it in a dry, cool place between uses. Avoid leaving it in standing water or in direct sunlight, as this can cause the soap to melt or deteriorate faster. You can also prolong the life of your soap by using a soap dish with drainage holes. If you keep it dry in between uses, one 7 oz bar of Island Thyme Soap Co coconut milk soap will last about a month with daily use for one person.

Is your soap safe for sensitive skin?

Yes! Our soap recipe is formulated to gently clean without stripping the skin's natural protective barrier. It's safe for most skin types, including sensitive skin. However, everyone's skin is different. All our product include ingredients. If you have sensitivities and reactins to certain ingredient listed, we recommend avoiding them.

I have a nut allergy. Can I use your soap?

What kind of wax do you use?

Our vegan wax is a toxin-free blend of coconut and apricot wax, a high-grade sustainable luxury wax known for its slow, clean burn and superior room fragrancing

Coconut wax is made from coconuts, which are organic and a sustainable source since it re-grows quickly. It provides a clean and slow burn, has a creamy and gorgeous texture. It gives a lovely scent throw, is natural, non-toxic and skin safe.

Apricot wax is also an organic and sustainable and a high-end clean burning wax. The oil to produced it, is extracted via cold press from the apricot kernel and is a beautifully balance our coconut wax. Also natural, non-toxic and skin safe.

Unlike soy wax, coconut apricot blended wax is non-GMO and produced without the use of pesticides or herbicides. It is also cruelty-free - Leaping Bunny Certified.

Why do you use wood wicks?

We use all-natural wooden wicks, produced in the USA and sourced from FSC-certified mills. When we spend $100 on wick orders from our USA supplier, a tree is planted through Trees for the Future. They create a fast burn pool for excellent hot throw. They don't mushroom and have little carbon buildup, debris, or sooting. Wooden wicks produce a tantalizing crackling sound when burning, like a campfire on the beach!

Why don't you use essential oils in your candles?

Essential oils oftentimes have very low flash points which cause the fragrance notes evaporate too quickly when added to hot candle wax. Our phlatate and paraben free fragrances are a complex blend of sophisticated fragrance notes specifically developed to be used in candle making by candle makers and at levels in compliance with IFRA fragrance guideline.

What size candle do I need to fragrance a whole room?

Because our vessels are between 3-3 1/2 inches wide, when burned properly, our candles work nicely in fragrancing medium to large sized areas like living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms. Allow the melt pool to reach close to the edges of the container on the first burn to prevent tunneling. The wider the melt poll, the wider an area will be fragranced.

Why is my candle getting black soot on the side of the vessel?

Trim your wick! Trim your wick! Trim your wick!

Trim the wick to 1/4” before the first burn. Trim the wick of the charred wood to 1/8” before each subsequent burn to prevent sooting. Remove all wick trimmings and debris from the wax between each burn. Never burn a candle for more that 4 hours to prevent overheating.

Why won't my candle stay lit?

If you trimmed the wick before burning, and removed the majority of the charred wood, It's possible the wick is trimmed too short and the flame is drowning in the melted wax. Extinguish the candle, insert the corner of a paper towel to absorb some of the melted wax to expose 1/8 inch of clean, non-charred wood. Charred wood left in place after trimming will clog the wick.

How long does it take to get my order?

Most Island Thyme Soap Company products orders ship carbon neutral the same or next day. During hot weather, we may limit candle shipping days to early in the week, so that orders do not sit on a trailer over the weekend.

Most orders are received within 3-5 business days from the day they ship.
