According to New York City dermatologist Doris Day, MD, author of the book Forget the Facelift, your whole body, and your skin, goes into "repair mode when you sleep." It wakes up begging for a drink of water. You're morning natural beauty routine is just as important to your skin. Starting your day off on the right foot by adding these simple tips to your A.M. schedule and your skin will reap the benefits all day long.
If you properly cleanse your face at night, there's really no need to scrub it in the morning. One of the benefits of handmade soap is it gently cleanses without stripping the skin of it's natural oils.
Drink a tall glass of water.
The best skin moisture comes from the inside. Dehydration doesn’t only make you feel bad, it wreaks havoc with the quality of your skin, too. After a night’s rest, your body is thirsty! Starting the day with a big glass of water, preferably ice cold, is great for kicking off your metabolism, rehydrating and sending the message to your brain that it’s time to get started.
Some people swear by adding some lemon juice to warm glass of water in the morning. Start by squeezing the juice of 1/4 to 1/2 organic lemon into a glass and fill the rest with warm water. It's a good idea to follow up your lemon water drink with a rinse of plain water to remove the acids from the lemon from your tooth enamel.
Mist your face!
Keep your face mist of choice in your fridge and give yourself a frigid spritz to the face first thing in the morning. It’s sure to wake you up, and it just the thing to bring down morning puffiness and leave you feeling bright, shining and bushy tailed!

Don't skip breakfast!
Eat some protein. Trade your carb-heavy bagel or sugary fruit for eggs or Greek yogurt. A recent study found that eating a high-protein breakfast will help you feel fuller longer and avoid overeating later in the day. It also optimizes your brain's ability to send messages to the rest of your body, helping you wake up. If you need an A.M. caffeine boost and aren’t the coffee type, green tea is the ideal way to get it.
