When It Snows...You Have Two Choices.

You have two choices.  Shovel, or make angels.

Now that the December days full of shopping, giving, and eating too much are behind us, some of us have slowed down enough to recognize that we want to feel better. How about a short excursion in the outdoors? You may be surprised at the benefits, especially if it's cold and snowy.

It's a great way to treat the "winter blahs."  Even people with Seasonal Affective Disorder may benefit from grabbing that coat and going for a walk. SAD is a biological condition in which the body produces depression-like symptoms as a result of decreased exposure to sunlight and low levels of vitamin D. The amount of light we can get even on a cold, cloudy day may be enough to counter mood disturbances, feeling extremely fatigued and craving those carbohydrates that create winter weight gain.

Spending time in natural settings can renew our ability to redirect our attention, making it easier to ignore those litttle annoying things that bother us when we're experiencing "cabin fever." What better surrounding can you think of to "Let It Go!" than standing in fresh falling snow?

When we are surrounded by such beauty in nature, as long as we're bundled up, it's easier to focus on things that really matter, like personal goals for the new year. Instead of feeling anxious and annoyed, those beautiful snowy scenes can leave us with a different feeling entirely: one of child-like awe.

There's something about fresh snow as it's quietly falling that has a dreamlike purity about it. It seems to remake the world into a pristine fairyland, even if just for a short period of time. There's the snow that blankets the tree branches, the crystalline crunch under foot, the rosy cheeks, the visible puffs of breaths...and the stunning beauty of snowflakes, each a delicate crystal, completely unique yet always symmetrical until it joins the others to blanket the earth in a white embrace.

"To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold." ~ Aristotle

So if it's snowing where you are, why not put on some layers and go outside? Grab a close friend or partner, bring a hot thermos for a mid-walk pick-me-up, and savor the warmth of flowing conversation. Walking in snow can also be a work-out for all those extra holiday calories. Or go alone, enjoy the quiet, focus on "me and nature time" and just take it all in.

When you come back inside, it's a good time to quench your skin with some of our ultra-creamy, fast-absorbing Omega Hempseed Lotion containing nourishing Shea butter, milk protein & vitamins to give skin long-lasting moisture.

It will be beneficial for both your body and soul.
