Eco-Musings Sea Glass Soap - Our Homage to the Romance of the Sea

March 02, 2015

"Sea Glass" seems quite magical as nature is the ultimate up-cycler.

Eco-Musings Sea Glass Soap

Over a period of 20-30 years nature takes unwanted glass bottles that have been tossed into the ocean, persistently tumbles the broken pieces in the salt water against the sand, grinding away until the sharp edges are smoothed and rounded producing natural frosted glass.  Then it deposits it on the beach in every color of the sea to the delight of beachcombers, artists and jewelers.

For the hopelessly romantics like us at Eco-Musings, sea glass is also referred to as "Mermaid Tears."

Legend has it that one dark, storm-ravaged night, with sails ripping and masts cracking, a schooner fought to find safety in Friendly Cove off Nootka Island in the San Juan Islands. While the maidens of the sea had the power to change the mighty course of nature, they were forbidden to do so by Neptune, the stern, watchful god of the sea.

This ship was familiar to the mermaid who swam along its side. She had weathered many crossings with the ship and its captain. She had, over time, grown to fall in love with him from afar.  As the ship heeled in the violent wind, the captain lost his hold on the wheel, tumbling perilously close to the raging sea. In an instant she calmed the wind and waves to save the man she had grown to love.

For her impetuous act, Neptune angrily exiled her to the depths of the ocean.  She was condemned for eternity and ordered never to swim to the surface again.  To this day, her gleaming tears wash up on the beaches as sea glass... crystalline treasures in magic sea colors, an eternal reminder of true love.

Eco-Musings Sea Glass Soap is our homage to beachcombers, artists and romantics everywhere.

The scent of the lather in this luxury coconut milk soap is fresh and ozonic like a tingling splash of ocean spray. The opening notes capture the essence of a brisk sea breeze spiked with grapefruit, lemon and cool peppermint. The green piquancy of the heart notes is melon, violet, beachrose, muguet and a touch of seamoss. The dry down maintains the marine character while introducing a complementary dry woodiness and musk.

Eco-Musings Sea Glass Soap is available exclusively at Island Cove Beads and Gallery in Indian Rocks Beach Florida, where you'll also find original mermaid art and hand crafted sea glass jewelry.

Freshen up your life with the cleansing power of herbal incense!

Smudging is the use of the natural qualities of aromatic plants to freshen up your life & home. Smudging is done to remove bad energy and bring a feeling of peace and clarity. Most people can tell when a place just doesn’t “feel” right. Smudging is said to remedy that.

The ritual of smudging can be thought of as "spiritual house cleaning." It’s not witchcraft, it’s all about good intentions. The practice itself does not require any specific religious beliefs. The burning of herbs for emotional, psychic, and spiritual purification is common practice among many religious, healing, and spiritual groups. The use of incense smoke is practiced in almost all forms of worship.

Palo Santo Smudge Stick with Lavender
Oh Holy Wood! Palo Santo Smudge Sticks

March 05, 2019

Palo Santo is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of South America. It belongs to the same family, graveolens, as Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal and features sweet notes of pine, mint and lemon.

ClOSE YOUR EYES...

Now imagine the refreshing fragrance of a shower in the Amazon rainforest. Unfortunately for us, quality Palo Santo essential oil is too costly to use in soap. Our raw cost for the fragrance alone from a trusted source would be more than $325.00 per pound of essential oil.

But there are certainly other more affordable ways to enjoy the amazing fragrance!
